Dr. Matthew L. Hubis has lived in the Carolinas his entire life. Born in Wilmington, NC in 1979, Dr. Hubis moved to Florence, SC in 1984. His father, a mechanical engineer, was transferred by General Electric, so the family moved to Florence. His mother, a longtime employee of the Florence school system, instilled an importance in education from an early age. After finishing West Florence High School, Dr. Hubis attended the College of Charleston, where he graduated Cum Laude with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. It was during his second year of college when Dr. Hubis decided to pursue dentistry. Dentistry, to Dr. Hubis, was a perfect mix of science, art and problem solving. He attended the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Dental Medicine in Charleston, SC where he was a member of Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, the American Student Dental Association and held a few teaching assistant positions.
During Dental School, Dr. Hubis met and married his wife, Emily, who is also a dentist. They have two beautiful children, Audrey and James, to whom they devote much of their spare time. As a family they enjoy travelling, taking long walks with their dogs, Lola and Mira, and movie nights. Dr. Hubis also enjoys golf, snow skiing, cycling, swimming and playing the banjo.
